The Last Invitation

Revelation: Know What's Next

Before the Bible closes, God gives one final invitation. In the closing verses of Revelation, one simple word appears again and again: “Come.” Jesus has announced, “Behold, I come quickly,” and the Spirit and the Bride answer, “Come.” But then the invitation turns toward the unsaved, the empty, and the spiritually thirsty: “Let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” There is a thirst in the human soul that nothing in this world can permanently satisfy. We may try money, position, recognition, love, success, or the things this world promises will make life meaningful, and still find ourselves thirsty. Life without Christ eventually leaves an empty place that only He can fill. But unlike sailors surrounded by an ocean of water they cannot drink, the water Christ offers is both abundant and available. Jesus says, “Come.” It is available to the child and the elderly, the rich and the poor, the moral and the immoral, every race and every culture. No matter what sin lies behind us, Christ died for our sin and invites us to come. Why would He invite us to come unless we could come? The great word of this final invitation is “whosoever.” We have a choice. We may reject Christ, or we may believe Him and receive what He freely offers. And perhaps we already know Christ, but we have wandered. There was a time when Jesus was not only our Savior but the satisfaction of our lives. We found our meaning in Him, loved Him, walked with Him—and then we began to drift. The invitation remains. To the unbelieving sinner. To the wandering Christian. To the thirsty soul. Come. This is God's last invitation in the Bible: “And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” — Revelation 22:17 Are you thirsty today?
